Magnetoscopic Testing (MT)

Magnetoscopic testing (MT) is non-destructive testing that reveals defects on the surface or slightly below it. These surface defects deform the magnetic field created by a device, causing leakage paths visible to the naked eye after the application of a fine iron powder.
Two main operating methods are used: colour contrast and fluorescent. The fluorescent method is the most sensitive.

This inspection method applies to ferromagnetic materials:

• carbon and chrome steels
• martensitic stainless steels (410, 410NiMo, CA-6NM, 440, etc.)
• ferritic stainless steels (405, 409, 430, 442, etc.)
• cast irons, nickel and cobalt
